A City Break: Weekend Trip to Bath

16 Aug 2015

I've always heard good things about Bath and it's always been on my list of places to visit. A pretty city West of England filled with history and incredible architecture definitely sounds like my kind of place. And as it's only a drive away I really don't have an excuse not to! So we packed an overnight bag, plus a bag of snacks and began our little road trip to Bath.

When we arrived, first thing's first, a quick coffee to refuel whilst admiring this stunning view with this lovely weather. (Until the clouds came over and the day turned a bit grey!)

As we waited for the next boat tour, we took a walk round the Parade Gardens. With rows of colourful flowers, the greenest of grass and the sound of water from the river, it's the perfect spot for a picnic or simply a serene stroll with our cameras. There was a couple having their wedding photos taken in the garden and I don't blame them, the garden is simply beautiful.

As we arrived in Bath on a late Sunday morning it was relatively quiet in town. We hopped onto a boat tour with ease and enjoyed a view of Bath from the River Avon. It's £5 for a one way trip or £8 for a return. We decided to stay on the boat, moving downstairs for a different view for the trip back and cheered on some rowers along the way!

Time to venture to Kingston Parade and The Abbey. Bath is such a charming, quaint city with some remarkable architecture (remember to look up!) I love all the columns and the Roman details.

Walking into The Abbey and seeing the stain glass windows really takes your breath away. You could look at it for hours! And the details around The Abbey from the ceiling down to the details on the walls are truly impressive.

After a quick pitstop at Pasty Presto for the World's Best Cornish Pasty, we ventured round the independent shops and along the high street. I spotted my next purchase in Radley and found the best store in Bath with everything from books and kitchenware to jewellery and succulents!

Another must-see in the city of Bath was The Circus. (An ideal spot for an #ootd!)

The Circus was such an inspiring area. We sat on the little grassy area in the middle to take it all in, did a bit of people watching (as you do) and imagined living in one of those marvellous townhouses. Bath you are so beautiful!

For the weekend trip, we stayed overnight at The Hotel Abbey.

Situated in the middle of the city, everything was pretty much on our doorstep. The room had a big comfy bed, tea and coffee facilities (No room is complete without it!), a TV, Wifi and the bathroom is complete with REN miniatures. Any bookings and further requests for extra pillows, towels or an iron were just a touch of a button away - literally - on the iPad in the room.

Obviously I had to have a bath in Bath so I relaxed with a Lush Ylang Song bath bomb. It had a soothing aroma and as the bath bomb splits, the water turned slightly green with yellow rose petals and purple everlasting flowers released.

In the morning, we headed to Le Bistrot Pierre for some eggcellent breakfast. A delightful French restaurant that had a rustic yet luxury feel with it's Instagram-worthy tables and beautiful marble bar.

To finish the weekend in Bath, we popped to the Roman Baths. A place that holds incredible history and a definite must-see when in Bath.

Just look at those sculptures! Walking around the baths and hearing all the history was kind of an eye opener. To see the history right in front of you, whether that be in the architecture or in the carvings and sculptures, was such an experience.

Despite the drizzle of rain, we grabbed an ice cream then hit the road back to London. Our trip was brief but I'm sure i'll see you very soon Bath!
